Art
Therapy
Programmes

Hi, my name is Deirdre Kenny and I'm a qualified Art Therapist and I facilitate the Art Therapy Programmes at the Shine Centre. I strive to provide a safe, supportive environment for children, adolescents through an intuitive and person-centred approach to create  a calm space for self-expression and healing. And also have some fun and laughter along the way!

I am a fully registered member of the Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists and works in accordance with their professional code of ethics.

What Is Art Therapy:

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creative expression to help people explore thoughts and feelings.

No artistic skill is needed.

The focus is on the process, not the finished piece.

Through drawing, painting, collage, and other materials, teens can:

• Express emotions safely
• Reduce anxiety and overwhelm
• Build confidence and self-awareness
• Develop emotional regulation skills
• Experience a sense of achievement

About This Group:

This small, structured group is designed specifically for autistic teens aged between 12 and 15 years old.

It offers:

• A calm and safe space to express emotions.
• Build their personal confidence.
• Opportunities for connection with other siblings.
• Respect for each young person’s individuality

Group art therapy can help children feel less alone, build social confidence, and develop a stronger sense of identity and belonging, all within a safe and understanding setting.
